ARTIST STATEMENT: When I’m making a piece of jewelry, I think about rhythm and balance.  But I also like  unexpected details: things that move, flash, hide or surprise. Using precious metal forms, fine gems and small diamonds, I aspire to find that surprise in each piece I make. Having no formal education in metalworking or jewelry design forced me to learn by trial and error. It also gave me the opportunity to use tools in untraditional ways and to develop my design sense separate from an instructor’s influence. Challenged to draw, I’ve always worked directly with metal to express my ideas. I’ve been a studio jeweler for the last 45 years.
